MotoGP 2011 Aragon: Race Reviews

    • Many questions but no answers for the Rossi-Ducati combo especially in Aragon where Ducati introduced aluminum part in the Desmosedici.

Rossi-Ducati slow? Stoner-Honda so much faster? Honda seamless gearbox is giving so much advantage to Stoner? There are so many variables to look into, but qualifying times do not lie:

      2010 Aragon Qualifying
(Dry, Air: 19 Degrees, 41 Humidity, Ground: 26 degrees)
      Stoner-Ducati 1:48.942
      Lorenzo-Yamaha 1:49.251
      Pedrosa-Honda 1:49.343
      Hayden-Ducati 1:49.506
      Spies-Yamaha 1:49.565
      Rossi-Yamaha 1:50.017

      2011 Aragon Qualifying
(Dry, Air: 28 Degrees, 49 Humidity, Ground: 41 degrees)
      Stoner-Honda 1:48.451 (0.491 sec faster)
      Pedrosa-Honda 1:48.747 (0.596 sec faster)
      Spies-Yamaha 1:49.155 (0.410 sec faster)
      Lorenzo-Yamaha 1:49.270 (0.019 sec slower)
      Hayden-Ducati 1:49.752 (0.246 sec slower)
      Rosi-Ducati 1:49.960 (0.057 sec faster)

      Conclusions:
Drivers that have not switched teams:
Spies, now with the Yamaha factory team, was 0.410 sec faster.
Pedrosa also much faster by 0.596 sec. Because he knows the track better or the new Honda gearbox?
Lorenzo a bit slower. Hayden was slower by 0.246 sec.

Looking at Stoner, he switched teams but repeated pole position. He did pole position with Ducati 2010 and now Honda 2011. Stoner-Honda is almost 0.5 sec faster than Stoner-Ducati.

What about Rossi? Rossi was faster by 0.057 sec compared to 2010 with Yamaha. Now Aragon was only in the calendar since 2010, so probably Rossi does not like the track so much. Stoner-Ducati in 2010 was 1.018 sec faster than Rossi-Ducati in 2011.

Stoner definitely likes the Aragon track. Rossi does not like it.
