MotoGP 2011 France: Race Reviews

    • Repsol Honda Casey Stoner was just too fast for anyone to challenge him in France. He was fastest in all practice sessions and took pole position for the race.
For about 10 laps into the race teammate Dani Pedrosa was close to Stoner, but Marco Simoncelli was approaching fairly quickly after clearing defending champ Jorge Lorenzo.
Simoncelli passed Pedrosa, but Pedrosa fought back in the next corner and lost control of his bike taking out Simoncelli in the process. Simoncelli was able to return to the action, served a drive-thru penalty and finished fifth.
With Pedrosa out and Simoncelly serving a drive-thru penalty, Lorenzo was second... but both Rossi and Dovizioso had a faster race pace. Great for Ducati! as Rossi passed Lorenzo. Unfortunately Dovizioso passed Rossi with only three laps remaining.
At the chequered flag: Casey Stoner first, second for Dovi, Valentino Rossi third in his first podium for Ducati, Lorenzo fourth and Simoncelli fifth.

    • Valentino Rossi.... why? because it was a terrific milestone to finish in the podium with Ducati. Yes, yes, he was in the podium because of the clash between Pedrosa and Simoncelli, but keep in mind, Rossi passed Lorenzo and that was significant. Why? because Lorenzo-Yamaha was unstoppable in 2010, and now Rossi has done better with the Ducati. Next milestone: get in front of the Hondas, particularly Casey Stoner. Yeah!
